LAS RAMBLAS DE BARCELONA – 2 min walk from our apartments
Millions of tourists come to Las Ramblas every year and visit Barcelona on this side of the city, exclusively for pedestrians.
There you can find almost everything, shops, restaurants, historical monuments and also La Boquería market, among other places to visit.
“Las Ramblas” or “La Rambla” is known for its constant activity, full of shops and its adjacent streets.
La Rambla border of El Gótic and El Raval neighborhoods, begins in Plaça Catalunya until a roundabout where the Christopher Columbus monument points to America, close to the port of Barcelona. The length approximately 1.5 km, and can be explored on foot.
When you walk through La Rambla, make sure you don’t skip La Boqueria, the oldest market in Barcelona. The stands exhibit in an extraordinary way, several products that range from typical fruits and delicatessen until products from all over the world. In the market, the food is cheaper compared with the surrounding restaurants. For those who love fish and seafood, it’s a most!!. Juices and fruit salads are delightful and very cheap too.
At night, Las Ramblas are very busy and full of young people.
BARCELONA CATHEDRAL – 5 min walk from the apartment
Neo Gothic style the Cathedral of Barcelona dates from 1887, and is dedicated to Santa Eulalia, patron saint of Barcelona. Located in the Gothic Quarter just 5 minutes walk from our apartments.
In the center of facade, the main door is located, parishioners and tourists share the same entrance. Between 1896 and 1898 the lateral towers were added, later, between 1906 and 1913 a central tower was built outside the Cathedral crowned with the image of Santa Elena.
CASA BATLLO (Gaudí masterpiece) – 15 min walk
Casa Batlló located in Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most central and famous arteries of Barcelona known as “The Golden Mile” (see it on the map above).
It was designed by Antonio Gaudí, a unique building, decorated with trancadis (cut in Spanish), an ornamental technique that consists of breaking tiles and then joining them.
In addition to its ornate facade, its organic structure is a true masterpiece of architecture. At the top of the building, there is a cross with four arms.
Cast iron balconies that look like Venetian masks, and on the terrace extraordinary fireplaces covered with pieces of tiles that give an impressive color. The roof is wrapped with tiles that look like scales.
Casa Batlló has been a Unesco World Heritage since 2005
LA PEDRERA (Gaudí masterpiece) – 20 min walk
Following Paseo de Gracia a couple of blocks above on the right is La Pedrera, one of Gaudí’s most distinctive works.
This building of undulating forms, was built between 1906 and 1910, during the height of the Art Nouveau period, a style of art and architecture of vivid decorative forms, where the curves on straight lines stand out.
The stairs and chimneys are what most attracts the attention of visitors. On the rooftop, the chimneys appear as phantasmagoric figures, in a dreamlike landscape. The roof also offers beautiful views of Barcelona and its surroundings.

MACBA (Barcelona Museum of Modern Art) – 5 min walk
The futuristic contemporary art museum of Barcelona MACBA, stands in the middle of one of the oldest neighborhoods in Barcelona. Together, there is the Center for Contemporary Culture – CCCB.
Since it opened its doors in 1995, it has been the engine for the modernization of El Raval.
The permanent MACBA collection includes works by contemporary Spanish and international artists. Temporary exhibits range from painting to video installations.
